The definition of support is to give courage and strength ...
... the definition of group is to bring together!
Caregiver Support Groups
The opportunity to be a Support Group member is available to all caregivers at no charge. Meetings are held in a group setting at a variety of locations and times to serve both Windsor and Essex County. Caregivers meet with our agency counselor to discuss a variety of subjects pertaining to Alzheimer disease and its effects. By working together, participants can help each other cope with effects of this disease. Quite often, members form an informal support network to provide assistance between groups.
Members agree that group allows them to openly discuss their feelings, experiences and fears in a non-judgmental and supportive atmosphere. not only does group provide emotional support, it often assists with the day to day practical issues -- health care assistance, dealing with behavior problems, research updates, Society information, additional resources, and more. We encourage all caregivers to attend these very useful and inspiring meetings. If care for your loved on is an issue, we may be able to help by providing respite care.
Memory Pals
Memory Pals is a program for people with dementia. Participants are matched into pairs and encouraged to spend time with one another. Participants determine how often they wish to get together. The goal of the Memory Pals program is to facilitate a connection between people with dementia and to allow participants an opportunity for support and socialization with someone who understands what they are going through. As much as possible, the matching is done based on personality, stage of the disease, and location.
Eligibility
Eligibility for the above support groups is determined by way of a consultation interview with the Group Facilitator. To register for a group, or to inquire more about eligibility, times or locations, please contact us.
